Headline: Rusted Auto Rickshaw Recovered From Mumbai Drain During Pre-Monsoon Cleaning, Exposing Severe Waste Mismanagement

During Mumbai’s pre-monsoon drain cleaning drive, BMC workers uncovered shocking waste including sofas, mattresses, beds, and heavy electronics. In a viral incident from Sakinaka, Andheri East, a completely rusted auto rickshaw was retrieved from a drain using a crane after JCB contact revealed its presence. The discovery highlights severe civic negligence, worsening monsoon waterlogging risks, and ongoing public appeals by authorities urging responsible waste disposal to prevent urban flooding.

In a startling discovery during the pre-monsoon drain cleaning drive in Mumbai, sanitation workers uncovered an unusual and heavily polluted mix of waste, highlighting severe civic negligence in the city’s drainage system.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is currently undertaking extensive cleaning of major and minor drains across Mumbai ahead of the monsoon season. During these operations, workers have been retrieving unexpected and bulky waste items, including old sofas, mattresses, beds, and heavy electronic equipment from different localities.

The most shocking discovery emerged from the Sakinaka area in Andheri East, where a rusted and severely damaged auto rickshaw was pulled out from inside a drain. According to reports, a JCB machine struck a hard object while operating inside the drain, prompting further investigation. Upon excavation, the remains of an auto rickshaw were found, with only its iron frame left intact due to extreme corrosion. The vehicle was later extracted using a crane.

The incident has drawn widespread attention after a video of the recovery surfaced and rapidly went viral on social media, leaving residents and officials stunned by the scale of waste accumulation in the drainage system.
